Ecology Tap Talk Series
Partnering with Common Fields, we hold a monthly Ecology Tap Talk series. Starting in Summer 2024, the Ecology Tap Talks will be moving to the third Monday of the month. Talks are free to attend, and Common Fields generously donates 10% of proceeds from the evening’s sales to MRWC.
Location: Common Fields, 545 SW 3rd St, Corvallis, OR 97333
Date: Monday, September 16th from 5:30pm to 7pm, with the talk starting at 6pm
Topic: “There and Back Again, a salmonid’s tale to restored fish passage in the Mid-Willamette” presented by the Marys, Calapooia, Luckiamute, North Santiam, and South Santiam Watershed Councils.
Learn about future Mid-Willamette Valley fish passage work funded by the Department of Commerce and NOAA. The projects funded will restore fish passage to 18 different Mid-Willamette sites and open access to 43 miles of high quality spawning and rearing habitat for a variety of Native Fish including Upper Willamette River spring Chinook salmon and winter steelhead both of which are listed under the endangered species act. The funding will also help to develop permit-ready designs for an additional 6.7 miles of habitat. Representatives of the Watershed Councils will talk about the impact the projects will have on ecosystem connectivity and community resilience to climate change and flooding.
Presenting will be the Executive Directors of the five watershed councils:
-Collin McCandless, Calapooia WC
-Jordan Perez, Luckiamute WC
-Holly Purpura, Marys River WC
-Shannon Richardson, South Santiam WC
-Brandin Hilbrandt, North Santiam WC
Tickets are not required to come to this free event.
We look forward to sharing our Recovering System Process in our Reese Creek project in which we:
- Improved the floodplain connection of one mile of Reese Creek with a series of low terrace and naturalized slope excavations anchored by large wood structures
- Replaced an undersized road crossing culvert

Restoration supports ecological and hydrological connectivity in the area as well as the habitat of Cutthroat Trout, Pacific and Brook lamprey, and freshwater mussels
